Defending champion Nalin Patel of Bombay Gymkhana kicked off his campaign with two double century breaks, in the second round robin of the state level MCF Open Billiards Tournament, at the Mandpeshwar Civic Federation, Borivali on Sunday.
Former world professional No. 7 Patel impressed with a fluent win over Sanjiv Bijlani of Park Club in Group D that included breaks of 214 and 259 and five half-century breaks including one that ended on 94 and an unfinished 60.
Likewise, last year’s runner-up Siddharth Parikh also warmed up with a convincing win over Melwin Mascarenhas of Catholic Gym in his Group A opener that included breaks of 209, 186 and 110.
2014 world team gold winner Devendra Joshi fashioned his first win in two outings when he beat junior Kreishh Gurbaxani of Khar Gymkhana with three century breaks in Group B.
