Mumbai: Radio Club’s talented Razmi brothers, Rayaan and Shahyan, were on a roll and came up with steady, composed performances as they both convincingly won the first and second frames respectively, as Radio ‘Dragons’ thundered past Garware Club House outfit GCH ‘Graceful Garware’ by a quick 3-0 margin in the best-of-five frame round of 32 match in the Billiards & Snooker Association of Maharashtra organized Otters-BSAM Mumbai Snooker League 2019 and played at the Otters Club billiards room.
The 16-year-old Rayaan (+20 handicap) was in complete control against GCH’s Siddharth Sogani (+45) and with a couple of tidy efforts easily won the 15-red first frame 97-77, which set the tone for their victory. Later, 13-year-old schoolboy Shahyan was confidence personified and potted consistently against Bhavesh Jain (+45) in the 15-red second frame. Shahyan grabbed every opportunity to make small useful breaks as he accumulated the points before racing to a fluent 103-66 win and help his team take a 2-0 lead.
The siblings’ father, Neville, joined the party and along with doubles partner Anuj Mahajan, they combined perfectly to outclass the Garware pairing of Gaurav Shah and Sharad Sharma posting a 84-42 win in the 9-red doubles third frame as Dragons romped to a comfortably 3-0 win and will now meet CCI ‘Royal Strikers’ in the pre-quarters on Tuesday.
Khar Gymkhana’s KG ‘Legends’ riding on the experience of Ishpreet Singh Chadha, Faisal Khan and the doubles team of Nikhil Saigal and Deepak Khubchandani also took the short route to the pre-quarter-finals defeating Cricket Club of India’s team CCI ‘Vikings’ 3-0.
In the last 16 round, Legends will clash with Park Club’s team PCL ‘Beach Boys’ who managed to overcome MCF ‘Tough Men’ by a narrow 3-2 margin. In a match of fluctuating fortunes, Amit Sapru (+35) won the crucial deciding 15-red fifth defeating Chandu Kansodaria (+45) 113-104. Earlier, Sapru and Amey Sankhala displayed good teamwork to overcome the Tough Men duo of Kansodaria and  Akshay Gogri 66-58. MCF Tough Men’s Rishabh Panchamia won both his frames, but his efforts went in vain. Vishal Gehal won the first frame to provide Beach Boys the lead.
In other round of 32 matches, JVPG ‘Tigers’ and PJHG ‘Jolly Six’ scored identical 3-1 wins against BG ‘A’ and KG ‘Gully Boys’ respectively.
