Mumbai: KG ‘Wanted’ (Khar Gymkhana) and JVPG ‘Cue Masters’ (Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana) recorded contrasting wins to advance to the quarter-finals of the Otters Club-Mumbai Snooker League (MSL) – 2017, conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).

In the round of 32 matches, Khar Gymkhana trailed 1-2 but they recovered strongly with Sahil Kakkad and captain Harmehr Mago comfortably winning the last two frames to clinch a close 3-2 victory at the Otters Club billiards hall, late on Thursday evening.

On the other hand, the Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana cueists enjoyed a good roll and without too much of a fuss brushed aside DG ‘Avengers’ (Dombivali Gymkhana) 3-0.

Meanwhile, Hushang Mazdayasna and Ronnie Daruwalla played stellar roles in guiding DPCG ‘Kamakazee’s’ (Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana) to a fluent 3-1 win against Dadar Club ‘Supremos’ in another round of 32 encounter.

DPCG won the first frame as Mazdayasna and Cyrus Kyani (+29 handicap) combined nicely and won the doubles tie defeating Rajit Mehta and Ambarish Gharpure (+33) 84-43. But the Dadar Parsee side lost the second frame as Malcom Kapadia (+45) was beaten by Mayur Shah (+55) 84-104.

Later, DPCG skipper Ronnie Daruwalla (+40) came up with a solid performance against Dadar Club’s consistent performer Viraj Joshi (+50)  and went on to score a close 109-94 win and level the match scores at 2-all. In the decider, Mazdayasna (+45) potted well and tamed Mayur Shah (+55) 112-72 to secure DPCG’s win and a passage to the last round of 16.

DPCG ‘Kamakazee’s’ beat Dadar Club ‘Supremos’ 3-1 (Hushang Mazdayasna/Cyrus Kyani (+29) bt  Rajit Mehta/Ambarish Gharpure (+33) 84-43; Malcom Kapadia (+45) lost to Mayur Shah (+55) 84-104; Ronnie Daruwalla (+40) bt Viraj Joshi (+50)  109-94; Hushang Mazdayasna (+45) bt Mayur Shah (+55) 112-72).

KG ‘Wanted’ beat GCH ‘Cuerators’ 3-2 (Harmehr Mago (+45) lost to Rishabh Kumar (+40) 100- 82; Sahil Kakkad (+50) bt Kartik Jhaveri (+40) 110-60; Karan Rao/Rebanta Sahuwani (+30) lost to Saumil karkera/Amar Parikh (+29) 70-98; Sahil Kakkad (+50) bt Rishabh Kumar (+40) 99-57; Harmehr Mago (+45) bt Kartik Jhaveri (+40)  100-77).
