Mumbai: Abhimanyu Gandhi was in outstanding form and grabbed all the attention by compiling a composed break of 70 as home favourites, Otters ‘Rockets’ (Otters Club) breezed past KG ‘Wanted’ 3-0 and into the semi-finals of the Otters Club- Mumbai Snooker League – 2017, conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association of Maharashtra (BSAM).

Hosts Otters Club cueists were clearly on a roll and hit all the right notes as they, in quick time sealed their quarter-final win at the Otters Club billiards hall. Rishabh Thakkar (+30) gave Otters the perfect start by defeating Khar Gymkhana’s Sahil Kakad (+50) 101-68 in the first frame. Later, Abhimanyu (+20) impressed with that magnificent effort to tame Harmehr Mago (+45) 133-45 in the second, before the Otters pair of Zenul Arsiwala and Yudhishthir Jaising (+27) combined well to defeat Karan Rao and Rebanta Sahijwani (+30) 69-45 to complete the victory. Abhimanyu was declared ‘Player of the Match’.

However, the two other teams from Khar Gymkhana – KG ‘Dirty Half Dozen’ and KG ‘Pocket Rockets’ stayed on course by reaching the semi-finals. KG ‘Dirty Half  Dozen’ riding on the brilliance of youngster Sparsh Pherwani, who won both his frames, including the deciding one, managed to brushed aside former champions CCI ‘Snooker Kings’ (Cricket Club of India) 3-2 in a tense encounter.

Meanwhile, Sagar Kanjani also held centrestage, winning both his frames which were the feature of KG ‘Pocket Rockets’ 3-1 win against Malabar ‘Matka Kings’ in another last eight match. Sagar wins came against the accomplished Malabar player Manav Panchal, who has otherwise been quite consistent.

ECC ‘Elfies Hornets’ (Elphinstone Cricket Club) complete the semi-final line-up recording an authoritative 3-0 win against NSCI ‘Seniors’ (National Sports Club of India).
