Mumbai: Playing on the home tables Naresh Sadarangi of Matunga Gymkhana advanced to the second round by defeating Madhadeo Karande 3-1 in a first round match of the Matunga Gymkhana 9-Red Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2017, which is sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall.
Sadarangani playing with the same handicap of +35 points as that of Madhadeo lost the first frame, but came up with a spirited fight back and managed to win the next three frames to settle the issue in his favour. The home player recorded a 52-86, 81-65, 81-69, 85-73 victory.
In the other first round matches, which saw some close fights Surajit Shirke and Jayesh Patel won their respective first round matches with an identical 3-2 margins. Shirke (+39) got the better of Vilas Upsham (+24) with the scores at 73-62, 72-86, 62-76, 64-49, 85-59, while Patel (+39) fought hard to overcome Sarvesh Kanekar (+35) in five frames with the scores at 63-85, 82-75, 41-80, 92-78, 91-53.
Meanwhile, Kartikeye Sharma playing with a low handicap of +18 played steadily and did not give much chances to his opponent Suman Bhattacharya (+39) and went on to score a 3-0 win with the scores reading at 82-73, 68-58, 87(28)-55. Sharma made a break of 28 in the third frame.
