Mallah squanders lead

Surya Prakash Singh of Kalyan rallied to beat Vijay Mallah of MCF, Borivali in an exciting first round tie, in the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Tournament on Friday.

Mallah, a marker at the Mandpeshwar Civic Federation, frittered away a 2-1 advantage after winning the opening and third frames in the best-of-seven contest. Singh staged an impressive comeback with a late burst to win three frames on the trot for a 46-53, 57-20, 33-44, 51-26, 55-17, 50-38 win.

In another tight first round encounter, Rahil Lassanwalla overcame Rahul Chandan of North Indian Association 54-26, 59-40, 53-45, 30-60, 17-56, 58-17 after enjoying an envious 3-0 lead.

The competition, being held under the auspices of BSAM, has attracted leading cueists including 2013 Asian 6-Red bronze medallist Laxman Rawat, 2013 IBSF World women’s snooker team gold medallist Arantxa Sanchis, Ishpreet Singh Chadha, Rahul Sachdev, Dhvaj Haria  of Gujarat, Railways duo Faisal Khan and Siddharth Parikh and the seasoned Devendra Joshi of Bharat Petroleum.
