Jigar Shah wins a thriller

Kandivali cueist Jigar Shah rallied from a 0-3 deficit to snatch a thrilling 4-3 win in the second round of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Tournament on Wednesday.

Staring at defeat, Shah initiated a brilliant comeback with impressive potting for a 24-50, 32-63, 25-55, 59-36, 54-17, 68-34, 45-33 win against formidable Yash Jain of Byculla. Jain surged to an envious 3-0 lead with a break of 24 in the third frame. But as Shah won the next two quite convincingly, he fired a crucial break of 26 in the sixth to force the decider that was a neck-and-neck battle until he broke away for a narrow 12-point win at 45-33.

Veteran Ramesh Sadarangani of the host club rolled on with another impressive win when he upset 2014 state sub junior snooker champion Suraj Rathi of Pune 4-2, after trailing 1-2. Kavish Jhaveri halted 10-year-old Shahyan Razmi in the second round with a 4-1 win after the latter, who came close to winning the third frame, lost it following an unfortunate in-off, a foul and Jhaveri’s fluke blue.

The significant winners were, Shekhar Surve of Shivaji Park Gymkhana and Khar Gymkhana trio Kishore Laungani, Manoj Kasare and 2014 state sub junior billiards champion Kreishh Gurbaxani.
