Mumbai, May 31: Selven Samuel of Otters Club and Chinmay Gawde of Radio Club hogged the spotlight and they constructed substantial breaks in winning their respective first round matches in the Bathija-P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Open Markers Tournament, conducted under the auspices of BSAM and played at the Hindu Gymkhana billiards room on Wednesday.

The Otters Club Samuel showed great touch and clinically compiled a half century break of 50 points to charge to a comfortable 3-1 (50-0, 39-28, 13-23 and 34-10) win against Garware Club House’s  Sujit Shirke in a first round contest.

Gawde also showed fine potting skills and rattled in an unfinished break of 47 points in the second frame to beat the challenge from Cricket Club of India’s Bakirao Pacharne posting a straight frame 3-0 (27-19, 65-7 and 40-0) victory and also advance to the second round.

In another interesting first round match, Antoni Menezes (Corner Pocket) and Cricket Club of India’s Prakash Karande were involved in a keen tussle. But, Menezes managed to come out trumps registering a 3-1 (36-24, 11-42, 35-23 and 37-23) win.

Meanwhile, Kailas Patil of Shivaji Park Gymkhana managed to prevail over NSCI’s Santosh Halde in three closely fought frames winning 3-0 (42-29, 24-13 and 62-28), while Garware Club House’s Ravi Sawant had a much easy time defeating Hasmukh Mayavanshi also of NSCI 3-0 (31-10, 51-43 and 35-3) in other first round matches.
