Khaire, Mayavashi roll into 2nd round

Mumbai, June 2: Swapnil Khaire of Khar Gymkhana and Rajesh Mayavashi of Malabar Hill Club recorded notable breaks of 35 unfinished and 34 points respectively during the respective first round victories in the Bathija-P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 6-Red Snooker Open Markers Tournament, conducted under the auspices of BSAM and played at the Hindu Gymkhana billiards room.
In an absorbing contest between Khaire and Vishal Yelve (MCA) the scores ran close as both shared the opening four frames. In the decider Khaire stamped his authority constructing an unfinished 35 point break to win the frame and the match 3-2 (38-16, 28-39, 24-29, 40-10 and 41-0). In contrast Mayavashi had a much relaxed outing against Ajay Solanki (NSCI) and with a break of 34 in the second frame completed a 3-0 (47-14, 42-1 and 49-2) victory.
MIG Cricket Club Suraj Shirke showed solid fighting qualities as after losing the first frame to Otters Club’s Ashish Ruke he bounced back by taking the next three frames to snatch a 3-1 (2-33, 36-4, 46-34 and 37-3) win.
Meanwhile, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana contender Sunil Shedge brushed aside the challenge from Satyashil Sarvankar (MCF) by coasting to a 3-1 (40-6, 44-45, 32-26 and 56-0) victory.
