Mumbai, July 31: Radio Club team Radio ‘Tigers’ and Elphinstone Cricket Club side ECC ‘Elfies Stars’, both recorded easy, straight frame victories to storm into the quarter-final round of the Otters Club BSAM Mumbai Z3-Snooker League 2018, at Otters Club Billiards Room. While Radio ‘Tigers’ devoured the Garware Club House team GCH ‘Strikers’ 3-0, Elfies Stars charged to an identical 3-0 win against Khar Gymkhana’s KG ‘B’ in pre-quarter-final contests.

Playing a free-flowing game a relaxed Vimal Mariwala (+40) snatched a tight win against Garware Club’s Varun Bagri (+45) by the slimmest of margin 101-100 in the 15-red singles third frame to quickly wrap up the match in favour of Radio ‘Tigers’ and secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, Mariwala teammates Saurabh Mehrotra won the first frame, which was also a 15-red singles and later Merzi Screwvala and Badar Karimi teamed up perfectly to win the 9-red doubles frame to take a 2-0 lead. Saurabh Mehrotra (+45) convincingly defeated Sahil Kedia (+50) 104-67 and Screwvala and Karimi (+27) outplayed Hitesh Kotwani and Darshak Jhaveri (+24) 89-54 before Mariwala saw them come through.

In another match played on the side table, Elfies Stars dominated all the three frames. Elfies Stars’ were provided with great start as Rajwardhan Joshi (+25) quelled the challenge from Khar Gym’s Krieshh Gurbaxani (+30) winning at 90-52 in the first frame before Mahesh Jagdale and Sunil Jain (+14) combined nicely to tame Deepak Khubchandani and Harish Pahuja (+21) 69-23 in the 9-red doubles. Later, Anurag Bagri (+30) outclassed Arjun Tejwani (+35) coasting to a 85-49 win and to seal ECC’s victory.
