Match Format & Rules

RULES AND REGULATIONS
Before Giving Entries:
• Official proof of membership must be submitted from your club/gymkhana confirming the membership of each player of the team.
• If a player is falsely presented as a club member, the entire team will be disqualified and banned for 3 years for unethical conduct.
(Situations in the past have come to notice and so this is now mandatory to ensure fair play)
VERY IMPORTANT:
For the leagues going forward for snooker as well as billiards league – only those sports members or honorary members can be taken in the team whose membership is minimum 6 months old and anything lesser than that will not be allowed to be a part of the playing team). The dates for the tournament to be considered will be around a similar timeline as it was this year for both snooker as well as billiards.
Submission Requirements:
• All entries must be submitted on official club letterhead and from the club’s official email ID ONLY
• Personal email IDs will not be accepted.
• Valid proof of membership of each member of the team must be provided and it could
simply be a photo of the id cards of each member and to collate and send in 1 single email and not separate emails. 
• Entry will only be accepted after:
1. Annual subscription fees are cleared.
2. Player registration formalities are complete.
3. Entry fee is paid in full.
No exceptions will be made. This rule will be strictly enforced. Player Registration:
• Only clubs with cleared annual subscription fees for FY 2025–26 will be considered.
• Players must complete the registration process before the entry deadline.
• Any player not registered will not be included.
• No changes in draw or handicaps will be allowed once uploaded on the BSAM website.
I. Match Format

“In the event that a team arrives for a scheduled match with only 4 players (instead of the full 5-player lineup), the team will not be required to forfeit the match. However, if the match reaches the 4th frame (where the 5th player would normally compete and is not present) that frame will be automatically awarded to the opposing team by default.”
• Best of 5 frames:
o Singles (15 Red)
o Singles (6 Red)
o Doubles (15 Red)
Order of Play via Chits:
1. Draw 3 chits for format; chosen one is Frame 1.
2. Draw 2 chits for remaining formats; chosen one is Frame 2.
3. The third format is Frame 3 by default.
• If match goes to Frame 4: must be 6-Red Singles.
• Frame 5 (decider): must be 15-Red Singles.
Player Rotation Rules:
• First 4 frames: 5 different players must play.
• Frame 5: may be a new or repeat player (repeat must be from Doubles frame only).
Other Match Regulations:
• Same format applies during playoffs.
• Each player must play at least 1 frame during group stages, or 3 points will be deducted.
Match Sequence:
• Home team does not write player names in advance.
• Once format is picked, teams exchange names with handicap on chits.
II. Team Composition
• Minimum: 5 players
• Maximum: 7 players
(To note that each player must play minimum 1 frame through the *group* stages. 
III. Point System
• Each frame won = 1 point
• Win 3–0 = (NO BONUS POINT)
(To note – there is no bonus point system)
IV. Foul & Miss Rule (15 Red & 6 Red)
• Players must make a genuine attempt to hit the ball even if snookered.
• A maximum of 2 respots will be allowed (3rd miss = foul only).
• After a failed 3rd attempt, player has options:
1. Play from the resting ball position
2. Claim a free ball
3. Ask the opponent to play
• New foul & miss cycle allowed only if a new snooker is laid after potting a ball and getting
a free ball.
• Intentional non-attempt to break snooker = foul + shot replayed.
V. Handicaps
• 15 Red Singles: printed handicaps
• 6 Red Singles: 40% of 15 Red handicap
e.g., 15 Red handicap of +30 → 6 Red = +12
• Doubles: decided by BSAM Tournament Committee (subject to change)
Note: Mistakes in applying handicaps → frame forfeited.
Reviews of handicaps after Week 2, Week 4, and before Quarter-Finals.
VI. Group Stage Tie Rules
• Tiebreakers:
1. Most wins
2. Frame average
3. Chit draw for 1st/2nd positions (if still tied)
4. Playoffs if required between tied teams for 2nd place
Club Responsibilities
• Ensure tables are in excellent condition (no tears, patches, or damage).
• League matches should begin by 6:00 PM.
• Alcohol and dinner are discouraged; light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are preferred.
• No intoxication products allowed during matches.
Scorecards
• Must be signed by both captains and emailed to bsamah@gmail.com by Monday noon of the following week.
• WhatsApp submissions will not be accepted.
• Incomplete or late scorecards = match loss for both teams.
Venue & Match Arrangements
• Home team arranges:
o Referee
o Lighting
o Refreshments
• Matches must be played on full-size tables using 1G Aramith Championship ball sets.
• Dates must be mutually agreed upon and completed by Wednesday of the scheduled week.
• No team is allowed to give a walkover.
Penalty: ₹5,000 + possible disqualification and point nullification Disputes
• BSAM Tournament Committee’s decision is final.
• Committee holds the right to alter rules in special cases.
Basic Infrastructure Requirements
• Clubs must have:
o Air-conditioned billiards room
o Hospitality area
o Clean restrooms with Western-style toilets
Non-compliance = exclusion from current and future leagues.
Dress Code
• Strictly enforced:
o No sandals, shorts, caps, or torn/lower-waist jeans.
o Collared T-shirts mandatory during knockouts.
o Sports or formal shoes only.
o Medical exemption only for serious foot injuries.
Prize Distribution Function
• At least one team member or club office bearer must be present to collect the prize.
• Peons or markers will not be allowed to receive on behalf of the team.
