    Pratyush, Rovin make Wilson Jones final

    Mumbai: Pratyush Somayajula (+35) of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation (MCF) Gymkhana and Bombay Gymkhana’s Rovin D’Souza (+20) set up a clash in the final of the Bank of Baroda sponsored P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Hindu Gymkhana’s billiards hall, Marine Lines.

    In the best-of-seven frames semi-finals, Pratyush prevailed over Mahesh Jagdale of ECC (+15) by a facile 4-1 margin, while Rovin also enjoyed an easy passage to the final with an identical 4-1 win against Chandu Kansodaria MCF (+50).

    Results – quarter-finals: Rovin D’Souza (BG - +20) beat Chandu Kansodaria (MCF - +50) 4-1, Pratyush Somayajula (MCF - +35) beat Mahesh Jagdale (ECC - +15) 4-1.


    Rawat, Parikh bow out in quarters

    Mumbai: State champion Laxman Rawat (+5) of Khar Gymkhana went down fighting to P. Somayajula (+35) of Mandpeshwar Civic Federation (MCF) Gymkhana by a 3-2 margin in the best-of-five frames quarter-finals of the Bank of Baroda sponsored P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament at the Hindu Gymkhana’s billiards hall, Marine Lines.

    Another MCF cueist, Chandu Kansodaria (+50) also advanced to the semi-final by recording a fluent 3-0 verdict over Santosh Pawar (+45) of Khar Gymkhana in another last eight encounter.

    Meanwhile home favourite, Siddharth Parikh (+10) also failed to qualify for the semi-finals losing 2-3 to Rovin D’Souza (+20) of Bombay Gymkhana.

    Current state billiards champ Mahesh Jagdale (+15) of Elphinstone Cricket completed the semi-final line-up with a 3-2 victory against Vashi’s Vilas Upshyam (+45) in the fourth quarter-final tie.

    Baban Solanki upsets Nikhil Ghadge 2-1

    Mumbai:Baban Solanki (+60) of Dadar Parsee Colony Gymkhana (DPCG) registered an upset 2-1 win against fancied Nikhil Ghadge (+45) of Matunga Gymkhana in a second round match of the Bank of Baroda sponsored Rs 1.25 lakh prize-money P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2012, at the Hindu gymkhana’s billiards hall.

    In another match, James Moon (+60) of Catholic Gymkhana overcame Sushrut Pandya (+50) by an identical 2-1 margin.

    Sitwala, Saboo enter third round

    Mumbai:Playing on his home tables, Dhruv Sitwala advanced to the third round of Bank of Baroda sponsored Rs 1.25 lakh prize-money P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2012, at the Hindu gymkhana’s billiards hall. Sitwala (+20) got the better of Megh Shah (+50) by a 2-1 margin with the frame scores at 101-91, 68-97, 101-71.

    In another match seasoned campaigner, Amit Saboo (+20) rallied from the loss of the first frame to defeated Kunal Rokade (+35) also by an identical 2-1 margin to also progress to the third round.

    Another Hindu Gym cueist met the same fate as Tejas Shah, when Milind Siwekar (+55) crashed out in the first round losing 0-2 to Prabdeep Singh (+45) of MIG.

     

     

     


    Fancied Yasin sails into third round

    Mumbai: Fancied Yasin Merchant, a two-time Asian snooker champ, playing to a scratch handicap sidelined Kartik Parikh (+45) by a two frames to one margin in a second round match of the Bank of Baroda sponsored Rs 1.25 lakh prize-money P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2012, at the Hindu gymkhana’s billiards hall. In other matches, Faisal (+5) also came up with a superb performance to tame Parag Paithankar (+55) 2-0, while Mohit Lalwani (+60) recovered after loss of the opening frame to pull off a 2-1 win against Ajinkya Yelve (+45).

    Vishnu Kedia beats Sahil Khan in a hurry

    Mumbai: Vishnu Kedia of JVPG scored a quick-fire 2-0 win over Sahil Khan of Islam Gymkhana in a first round match of the Bank of Baroda sponsored Rs 1.25 lakh prize-money P.J. Hindu Gymkhana Wilson Jones All-India Open Handicap Snooker Tournament 2012, at the Hindu gymkhana’s billiards hall.

    Kedia playing to a handicap of plus 50 seemed to be in an awful hurry as he consistently and quickly potted to record a 86-76, 109-54 victory in the best of three-frames opening round.

    Dhariya Bhandari also from JVPG was on in fine form as he sidelined Horzmud Pardiwala of DPCG by an identical 2-0 margin. Bhandari prevailed at 119-94, 115-105.
